The Experience Myth
Most hiring managers filter by years of experience. Zuckerberg does the opposite.
He has seen people with 20 years who learned nothing after year two.
And people with 2 years who are already better than the 20-year veterans.
Another thing Facebook has done exceptionally well is hiring. I always tell founders — this is the thing you have to get good at.
Learning Speed
What matters is not how long you have been doing something. It is how fast you are improving.
A fast learner closes experience gaps in months. A slow learner never closes them.
Zuckerberg builds teams around learning speed, not seniority.
Someone who learns fast with 2 years beats someone who learns slow with 20.
The Interview
Zuckerberg tests learning speed in interviews. Give a candidate a new problem they have never seen.
Watch how they reason through it. Do they ask good questions? Do they adapt?
The ones who light up when facing something new — those are the hires.
