The Principles Were Sound
Zuckerberg: I do think Elon led a push early on to make Twitter a lot leaner. You can agree or disagree with exactly all the tactics and how he did it. Every leader has their own style.
But a lot of the specific principles he pushed on — basically trying to make the organization more technical, decreasing the distance between engineers and leadership — those were sound.
You can disagree with the tactics. But the principles — more technical, fewer layers — were sound.
Could We Be Better Too?
Zuckerberg: His actions led me and a lot of other folks in the industry to think — could we make our companies better by pushing on these same principles?
And I think the answer for a lot of companies turned out to be yes.
